Jeff Nielsen’s Pedal For Heart is a very personal journey to see how far a man can push himself. He is aiming to set a new 24 hour solo human powered record and become the fastest rider in the World.
This April, he’ll be trying to crack the current record, held by Canadian Greg Kolodziejzyk of 1041.25kms.
A Very Personal Journey
Jeff has a lot of heart. Many people in the Energy Breakthrough community know that building and preparing a vehicle for the challenge takes a lot of heart and soul. But for Jeff, his involvement has taken on a highly personal level.
“I decided to support the Heart Foundation because at the age of 16 I lost my mother to heart disease.” Jeff explains on his website, PedalForHeart.com, that on the night his mother passed away, his father had just been cleared of cancer after a two year battle.
“It’s something that I can only really describe as unfair. I say unfair because up until the night she passed away I never thought that there was anything wrong with my mother.”

“I want everyone to see me attempt this record in the hope that they might think: ‘Wow, the human body is amazing and it can achieve so much’.”
“I want everyone to read and hear about my life and make the effort to know the warning signs of cardiovascular disease and to make the effort to not becoming another victim to this killer.”
So, where has this record attempt come from?

Jeff is a former RACV Energy Breakthrough participant, who’s been racing with Ben Goodall and the gang at 'Trisled - Fresh Racing' for the better part of the last 10 years.
Last year at Easter, Jeff teamed up with Ben Goodall and headed to Lang Lang and set a new Australian 200 metre flying sprint record of 82.66km/h (that’s quick!)
In 2008, he took to the velodrome at Darebin (DISC) for 12 hours and covered 490.25 km.
Now, for the leap up to World Record Standards:
Now he’s taking the leap from the Australian levels to the challenging International Records, which will require him to average more than 43.39 km/h for 24 hours.
There are a range of specifications needed for a record attempt covered wind, course flatness, accuracy of measuring equipment and trial conduct, but Jeff’s making sure he ticks all the right boxes.
The trike Jeff rides is a modified version of the Trisled Sorcerer Series 2: it’s thinner, lighter, has smaller clearances and is without roll bars.
We wish Jeff all the best in his record attempt!

How can you get involved?
