Tru-Blu breakthrough in Casey
The 'nice guys' take the overall win in a breezy six-hour
[Home | Race Results | 2008 HPV Event Calendar ]
Tru-Blu Racing held their nerve right to the end of the 2008 Casey Six-Hour to pip Trisled Racing by just one lap. They are the smooth and consistent 'nice guys' of HPV racing.
The Casey Cardinia HPV & Cycling Club took another step forward with this year's event, and if they continue to do so, this event will be here to stay for a long time. The new permanent 'Race Control' building made the admin and timing crew's life a lot easier and the whole Casey Fields precinct is starting to take shape. |
One area of change for the 2008 event was in the classes on offer, with the traditional Community, Senior Secondary, Junior Secondary, Female classes joined by a Veterans class and divisions for Grade 5 and Grade 6. Yes - the Vets class! If you're sick of watching your kids go round, maybe you could race next year too! |
How the race
unfolded
As the flag dropped at 10am to signal the start, Ex-Pats Racing's 'The Biff' took off, with Tru-Blu tailing with Weeroona's Reloaded within reach. The Trisled duo were not far behind as the new direction seemed to be suiting almost everyone, with few incidents of note throughout the day. The biggest challenge on the course seemed to be the ever-present wind and the fact that on this circuit, you never get a chance to stop pedalling and take a breather.

Trisled (top right), as always, we
steady throughout the event and always in the hunt. This is Ben Goodall's neck of the woods and the whole crew looked comfortable on the Casey Fields track. Trisled's Easy Tiger fell to a rear flat tyre early on, which proved to be the difference for them. They ran as low as fifth at one stage before climbing back up to challenge Tru-Blu. Ben G himself gave the crowd plenty to cheer about with some 2-wheeling antics for much of his last stint.

Weeroona's Reloaded was simply stellar all day. For a crew in or under year 10 to be so close to the pointy end is a real testament to their dedication to the sport. With a new trike, could they challenge for the overall in Maryborough this November?
St Marg's Lynx (bottom right) re-found the gremlins that plagued it back at the Energy Breakthrough last year. After scorching the track in Wonthaggi the crew came expecting big things, but were beaten comfortbly by their training partners from Berwick SC.
The spectacle of being able to see the whole course never loses it's appeal in Casey. It's easy to judge the effects of a pit stop and how riders are fairing on the far side. |

And at the Chequered Flag...
..it was Tru-Blu Racing who had kept the pace consistent to be waved across the finish line by yours truly.
(It was my maiden flag waving and I must say I enjoyed it quite a bit.)
Not once have I ever heard a harsh word said of Tru-Blu Racing's on-track or off-track behaviour. Their preparation is always good and this victory comes after many years of refining a smooth and silent design. They've been strong supporters of the Casey event as well as the Maroondah GP and Wonthaggi.
It's now on to Murray Bridge for the Mt Martha boys with possibly a new rig:
"We've taken this design to it's limit. Now, we going to push in a new direction." - Brenton Pearman (Tru-Blu)
