The RACV Energy Breakthrough is an Education event that
encourages ‘learning by doing’
and focuses on science, energy
efficiency, technology and
the environment.
Whilst
many spectators see only the finished vehicle and the team’s
performances at the event,
most campaigns stretch back months before the
weekend – some even back to the year before
as team’s begin devising
improvements and innovations.
From
the outside, it may also seem difficult to fathom how three wheeled
vehicles,pushcarts or water models
can fit into a school‘s curriculum,
but once you think about the different aspects of the event –
it’s hard
to find a subject where the Breakthrough couldn’t be applied!
Schools have identified the following curriculum areas as having links
to the RACV Energy Breakthrough: technology studies, science, English,
arts, environmental science, maths, accounting, computer studies and
health and physical education.
Into The
Future:
Subsequently, the Country Education Project developed -
‘Into the
Future -
’ -
a resource to assist schools integrate their Energy
Breakthrough campaign into the any area of school life.
It outlines a number of activities designed for upper primary to lower
secondary students that can be used to introduce students
to the Energy
Breakthrough concepts.
