Wheeler’s Hill Primary have already rocked Maryborough eight times before and with great success, so we thought we’d find out a few of their secrets. Were they willing to give them away? Ari King finds out.

EB (Energy Breakthrough): You’re coming from a rich EB history, how many times have you been involved?

WHPS (Wheelers Hill Primary School): This will be our 9th year so far. Next year we will call back all of the old participants and have a big 10th anniversary!

EB: Is the school taking part in EB as part of class at school, a club, or an extra-curricular activity?
WHPS: Extra Curricular. They have 5 vehicles, and raced 3 of them at the lead up events. But we will only use 2 at the Breakthrough event. We prepare before and after school and the parents help with the training.

EB: What aspect of EB have you found most difficult so far?
WHPS: Choosing the teams. Our first race was daunting because they were all in together, and also the cold winter mornings!

EB: What have been the rewards?
WHPS: We got a medal for our first race. We have learnt a lot, pushed ourselves hard, and have made some great new friends!

EB: What have you done differently this year as opposed to last year?
WHPS: No changes - we don’t change a winning formula!

EB: Tell us a little bit about your vehicles
WHPS: We have two vehicles without fairings or canopies, Supernova’ and ‘Comet’, were named with a space theme after a team vote.. . They are different lengths to cater for different heights. Both vehicles are red.

EB: Your aims for 2008?
WHPS: As long as we perform to the best of our ability we’re happy. We just to want to have a great final end of year experience for the end of grade 6.

Well, not too many secrets outed here, but with a solid preparation behind them, Wheelers Hill should do well at this year’s event
