They were the team that which entered a hybrid, but raced a HPV, at the 2008 RACV Energy Breakthrough.
Let’s find out more about Warracknabeal SC: last year’s winners of the Country Education Project‘s “The Judy Parker Award for the Best First Year School”.

RACV EB: What was your student's reaction to their first Energy Breakthrough?
Michael Rodgers, Team Manager, Warracknabeal SC (Mick):
The students were suitably amazed and thrilled. I remember walking up to the oval for the first time with them, they were like, "This really is big Rodgers". When we got back to school, the whole community was very proud.

EB: What did your students learn in ’08?
Mick: Marc learnt that 1am in the morning is pretty early another of my students Ethan believes that “condensation is a rider's worst enemy and the louder your horn the more people get out of the way”.

Mick and the Warracknabeal team “Chillax” arrived in Maryborough in '08 with a cordless drill as their electric power supply. But when the system broke on the Thursday night, Mick was on the phone to event organisers exploring their options.
With no time to drive to Melbourne for replacement parts, team Chillax was offered a motorless-race in the HPV event.

Warrack - ChillaxEB: So are there big plans for this year?
Mick: We are going crazy and entering 2 teams from Warrack, both HPV, one HPV B2 and one HPV C.
We are also planning a big focus on recumbent training and fitness. I hope it goes well.

EB: How many kids do you have interested?
Mick:It is looking fairly good at this stage with around 50 students interested across the 2 teams.
We’ll be having team selections as there is obviously too many to fit into the teams. If you think about it that is a fifth (or 20%) of the school population.

Mick's story and the growth of interest at Warracknabeal SC shows how quickly the Energy Breakthrough bug can catch on. Pictured right is their 2008 entry, Chillax.
