Mater Christi College's opening assembly for 2009 was packed with students, visitors and guests. What better time to present them with the Holden Secondary Encouragement Award.

Holden Australia's Arnie Vejins was on hand to present the college's 2008 RACV Energy Breakthrough team with a new Holden V6 Alloytec engine. The engine was on display in the college foyer on the day, but will be soon moved to the workshop to be examined and learnt from for year's to come.

The RACV Energy Breakthrough Planning Committee again congratulates Mater Christi College, whose 2 teams: Mater Madness and the Pink Sparks embodied the spirit of the event fantastically.

About the Holden Secondary Encouragement Award

The Holden Secondary Encouragement Award looks at which school's hybrid teams have shown outstanding promise, and is in recognition of the school competing in the spirit of the competition.

The assessment looks at how the team/s operate, including performance, camaraderie, teamwork, enthusiasm, involvement and motivation.

It also looks at the school's past involvement in the event, new technologies mastered, obstacles overcome along the way and a variety of other considerations.
The award is not based on results achieved during competition, but rather how the team operates during that time, as well as what they've achieved to get to the Energy Breakthrough.

Holden believe that teamwork, together with the focus on innovation that is encouraged, is particularly important for our engineers of the future.
