Watch out for the team that ‘loves speed and riding’ as they flash around the Holden track at Maryborough this year. With the name of Speed Riders, Epping Primary is eager to amaze us all!

After a vote to decide on their team name, the Speed Riders went above and beyond by even creating a team motto: “We love speed and we love riding!"

EB (Energy Breakthrough): So, are you first timers?

EPS (Epping PS): This is our fourth year. Second year in the HPV section, but fourth time for the Pushcarts.

EB: What’s the commitment for the students?
EPS: This is a voluntary extra- curricular program. We begin in March every year. The students are mainly grade 6, but some are in grade 5.

EB: Tell us about your vehicle?
EPS: We’ve changed the design of the vehicle. It’s more aerodynamic, and has developed from what we have earlier. This year our vehicle is yellow and blue. It was supposed to be blue and pink but when we picked it up it was yellow and blue. We might change it though.

EB: What aspect of EB have you found most difficult so far?
EPS: Fixing the vehicle, and the continual development of it.

EB: What have been the rewards?
EPS: Self-accomplishment. Also the sense of team spirit and working together.

EB: How is the budget looking?
EPS: The kids raised their own money, with no funding from the school at all. We’ve raised over $1,000 so far, but we need about $3,000.

EB: Any Major Sponsors?
EPS: Our major sponsors are Safeway, Eltham Billboards, Atlas Education, Goldcross Cycles, R.J. Sanderson & Co, Epping Self- Storage, and Greenbrook Foodworks.

EB: Is there an expectation to perform well this year?
EPS: We just want to get to Maryborough, try our best and have fun. Working as a team is good enough for us.
