Wireless in the PitsTeams can access live race data on-site thanks to a wireless network and a neat piece of software called ‘Race Monitor’.
This software is easy to install and provides race standings as vehicles cross the line.
Like all things tech, they’re brilliant when they work ... but they aren’t bullet proof like Kevlar.

We’ve put together as much as we can tell you about getting Race Results by wireless at this year’s event.

What does the Race Monitor Software look like?
RMonitor Screen Shot

The software allows you to view any vehicle's:
  • overall race position,
  • laps completed,
  • last lap time,
  • fastest lap time and lap which it was clocked on,
  • plus many other fun features that might keep you awake overnight!

Getting it going in 6 easy steps:
1/ Download the Race Monitor Software (728 kb)Download Now
2/ Install the Race Monitor Software
3/ Connect to one of our two Wireless Networks
4/ Open the Race Monitor Software
5/ Put in the IP address in the right place
6/ Open a Results Window

(Download these instructions as a PDF)

Download Now1/ Download the Race Monitor Software (728 kb)
Note: This is the same software we’ve used for the last 4 years, so if you’re back again,
there’s no need to reinstall / re-download.

2/ Install the Race Monitor Software
Notes: This software typically installs in the C drive: Program Files folder which makes it easier to delete after the event and less likely to affect other programs running on your machine.
You may install this software to any location you wish.
The software does NOT install files to any other location other than the one you select.

3/ Connect to one of our two Wireless Networks
There’ll be two networks running – one for the Holden Track and one for the RACV Track.
The networks will be pretty easy to find if you’re in pit lane and called something obvious like: ‘Energy1’ and ‘Energy2’.
Make sure you’ve selected ‘Automatically Assign IP Address’ in your Network Connection settings and you’re on your way.
Note: Our on-site wireless network doesn’t connect you to the world wide web – it’s actually just set up for this results network, sorry!

This should be sufficient information to get you up and running.
If you have any major dramas with this, see a Multisport Australia timing official during the event.

Traps for young players:
Trap No. 1: “I put the IP address in the wrong place.”
When you’re connecting to the network, you should select ‘Automatically Assign IP Address’ in your Network Connection settings.
The IP address we give you is for use in the Race Monitor software ONLY, as show above in the ‘Getting It Going’ section

Trap No. 2: “My school’s IT Administrators have locked my laptop and won’t let me connect to a wireless network or install any new software.”
If this is the case, there’s not much we can do for you – please check this out with the relevant computer-guy or gal at your school before you come.

Within the Race Monitor Software, what do all the dots and arrows mean?
When you open a new ‘Race window’, there a whole host of information you can choose to view. If you choose ‘Marker’ you’ll see some of the following:

  • Green Circle: These are just markers to indicate that the vehicle has crossed the line recently.
  • Green arrow: These are good – they mean you’ve passed the team ahead of you on the road.
  • Grey Square: According to the team’s average lap time, they haven’t crossed the line when we would’ve expected them. No worries... they might be in the pits or just taking their time to come round. (Pretty smart, huh?)
  • Black Square: Uh oh ... the vehicle hasn’t been seen for a long time now (approx 6 mins +). It might be in the pits or on the back of the RACV Recovery Vehicle.
