Primary school students will go better with a Holden mentor.
Please note applications for this program closed on April 8, 2011.

Primary Schools who successfully applied for this Mentoring Program will have access to an industry expert to talk about:

  • vehicle design,
  • aerodynamics,
  • vehicle handling,
  • the impact of vehicles on the environment, and or
  • alternative energy sources.

Holden VehicleA new initiative in 2010 and now expanding in 2011, Holden has a team of mentors ready to support primary school teams entered in the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) A Class or the Try-athlon Primary Classes for the 2011 RACV Energy Breakthrough.

It’s a great opportunity for these schools to develop a mentorship with an industry leader from Holden and for students to hear what industry experts are saying about the future of personal transportation and the environment.

How will it work?

Applications were received online via this page until April 8. This application time has now closed.
The program will start with a meeting of Holden Mentors and School representatives at Holden on
Tuesday May 3, 2011
. (191 Salmon Street, Port Melbourne - View Map)
Please note this is an essential component of the program.

Holden mentors will then communicate with HPV A teams with at least one face to face visit, via e-mail and/or telephone. Holden mentors and school teams may have regular communication throughout terms 2, 3 & 4 in the lead up to the RACV Energy Breakthrough in November.

These conversations and discussions will help prepare teams for the event, particularly the Design & Construction and Display & Presentation components.

What do teachers say about the Holden Mentor Program?

"Our Holden Mentor was really super!

“He spoke in a kid-friendly manner and talked about how to take corners on the track, including the best angles to use. He also spoke a lot about safety and helped the students understand the importance of it.  He spoke to us about aims, values and preparation, which for a first-time school like us was really, really good.

“I would recommend the Holden Mentor Program to other schools.”

- Carolyn Tynan, Teacher, Avoca PS
