Your primary school students will go better with a Holden mentor.

Holden has been a major partner of the RACV Energy Breakthrough since it first began in 1991. Keen to find new ways in which it can support the Breakthrough, in 2010 Holden has for the first time offered a mentor program to all teams entered in the Human Powered Vehicle (HPVA) Class.

In May, eligible schools were invited to apply for a mentor through the Energy Breakthrough website, with 20 schools from across Victoria quickly taking up the offer. The schools were then matched with Holden experts from a variety of departments, including Corporate Affairs, Engineering, Marketing and Quality.

Under this new initiative mentors will meet regularly with their school, providing guidance and industry expertise in the development stages of the HPV A entries.

Holden’s Internal Communications and Community Relations Manager, Brodie Restall said Holden looked forward to expanding its support of the event through the mentoring program. “Holden has always been proud of its association with the Energy Breakthrough. This year we thought we had a fantastic opportunity to build on our partnership and share the knowledge and expertise we use in our business to assist teams prepare their entries”.

After undertaking training with the Energy Breakthrough organisers in July, Holden mentors are now meeting with their schools, sharing information and advice on areas such as vehicle design and aerodynamics, vehicle handing, the environmental impact of vehicles and alternative energy sources.

John Stafford, Event Convenor of the RACV Energy Breakthrough welcomed the initiative. “Having access to industry expertise and support is an incredible opportunity and will greatly help prepare teams for the event, particularly the Design & Construction and Display & Presentation components. “
