Thrills and spills at the 2009 Bendigo Cartridge World HPV Pursuit

The second Bendigo Cartridge World HPV Pursuit had thrills, spills and new records set in the Community and Senior Boys Classes. An enjoyable day’s HPV racing was conducted on the Tom Flood velodrome as part of the Bendigo International Madison carnival. Full results available in PDF here (56 kb)

A lack of teams present was more than made up for by the strength of riders and the racing they provided. Several local school and community teams participated and quicker times were set for the standing 6 laps than were set last year for both the community and senior boys classes.

Steele Van Hoff riding for Ex-Pats Racing set the track alight with a blistering time of 2:40 - two wheeling his way to a time 4 secs quicker than Cal Ridge’s Bendigo Youth Racing winning time in 2008.

Girls - Shelley Tuohey

Bendigo Senior SC and Spring Gully PS each received an encouragement award for their special efforts in making the starting line for the event.

Night time thrills
A demonstration event was conducted in the early evening to a large, fascinated audience of track cyclists. This was an eventful spectacle with Weeroona College's 'Bullet Proof' making an unexpected excursion onto the infield only to make it back onto the track only to roll over right in front of the main grandstand, to great exclamation of the large crowd. It all served to raise awareness of our unique sport to the wider cycling community.

Special thanks to Cartridge World Bendigo for again providing $100 prizes to each of the four class winners and to Harnetty Racing Trikes for the two encouragement award prizes.
