Human Powered Vehicles
Entrants design, build and compete, using a vehicle powered solely by human power. The event specifications direct the construction of the vehicle - including safety, dimensions, steering regulations, lighting and warning device requirements.

Leading teams can complete almost 900kms in 24 hours, with advanced materials such as carbon fibre, kevlar and titanium infiltrating vehicle designs. But its not just about the cutting edge - just the opportunity to participate keeps many teams coming back year after year!

Pushcart Entries Innovations In Technology Entries

Pushcarts
Open to primary schools only, the pushcart category is a challenging but enjoyable way of introducing energy use and technology to young students. The machines are based on the humble billycart, is powered solely by student and must have a roll bar that may double as a push bar It is powered solely by students.

Innovations In Technology
Innovations in Technology is all about creating solutions to water based problems. The event is split into Crafty Design and Moving Water sections. Entries are judged on design, environmental considerations, creativity, performance and team work.

Hybrid Entries Try-athlon Entries

Hybrid Powered Vehicles
Home to some of the most innovative and ingenious designs, the Hybrid category is open to vehicles powered by a combination of at least two energy sources.
Limited in energy size and fuel restrictions, teams and vehicle designs must carefully balance speed and fuel conservation to remain competitive right through to the end of the 24th hour.

Try-Athlon
Racing human powered vehicles in an obstacle rally, time trial and endurance event sounds like fun - doesn't it?

Try-athlon teams participate in the Display & Presentation and Design & Construction sections, which represent 20% each and three physical tests – resulting in the most widely assessed category at the Breakthrough.
