Try-athlon Rules & Guidelines

Whilst the Try-athlon has many rules specific to the category, teams are covered by the general Handbook in areas of:
•     HPV vehicle design and specifications

•     Team composition and Classes

•     Assessment

•     Camping

Classes for the Try-athlon
Class A
Teams comprising primary students only, in which at least half of the team members are female.
Class B & C

Teams comprising secondary students only, in which at least half of the team members are female.

Open Class

Teams that cannot fulfill the above requirements for the number of females in the team.

The number of Classes conducted is subject to change based on demand.

Time Trial:

Venue:            RACV Track (Near RACV Stage)

Each rider will complete 1 lap of the track (approx. 500 metres). Riders will changeover in allocated pit areas. This event will be conducted in trials with three or four teams competing at one time.

Points Allocation - Time Trial

Points will be allocated on the total team time recorded. That is, 15 points to the team recording the fastest time.

Other finishers: (X/Y) 15 = no.

X = fastest team time recorded

Y = teams own time

Obstacle / Rally:

Venue:            RACV Track (Near RACV Stage)

Each team will complete the Obstacle/Rally section. The track will be approximately 500 metres with 4 or 5 obstacle stations/control challenges. Riders will each complete one lap of the track in each stage.

Note: The format may change depending on the number of entries received.

Points Allocation - Obstacle / Rally

Team starts with 100 points.

One (1) point lost for each error in obstacle course

One (1) point lost for each 10 seconds slower than fastest time for that stage.

Endurance Trial:

Venue:            Holden Track

Distance:        Approximately 1100 Metres

Teams will compete over eight hours. Each rider should complete at least 30 minutes riding. The Endurance Trial will be run in conjunction with the Hybrid Trial on Saturday November 26. Teams assemble as directed and the trial will commence with a rolling start behind the RACV vehicle.

Points Allocation - Endurance Trial

Points will be allocated on distance completed by the team. That is, 20 points to the team recording most laps.

Other finishers: (X/Y)30 = points

X = highest number of laps recorded

Y = teams number of laps.
